HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and top quaddie numbers for the 10-race card at Eagle Farm this Saturday. With plenty of rain around the River City throughout the week, the track will be wet and we could see a downgrade from the current Soft 6 rating by race day. The rail is out 3.5m for the entire course and the first race of the day is set to jump at 11:38am AEST.
Eagle Farm Best Bet – Lashes
It will be a long wait until the final race of the day, but we think it will be worth it as Matthew Smith and Kyle Wilson-Taylor combine with Lashes. Last seen at the races on March 27, the six-year-old mare was a good winner at Doomben before having a lengthy spell and has trialled well on three occasions in the lead-up to this first-up assignment. The daughter of I Am Invincible boasts form around Tailleur, Probabeel and Fabergino, which is far superior to what she is up against on Saturday. Wilson-Taylor claims 3kg, which means that Lashes will have to carry only 55kg – just 1kg above the minimum weight in the race. From barrier six, the mare is going to get the perfect run in transit up on the speed. Here’s hoping the 1000m isn’t a touch too sharp for her.
Next Best at Eagle Farm – Georgie’s Pride
If you are listing Eagle Farm track specialists, Georgie’s Pride is right at the top with five wins from eight starts on the track. The Desleigh Forster-trained mare resumed with a third-place effort at Doomben on October 2, finishing 1.5 lengths off Say Haya and Ruuca after leading a good clip with 58kg. She drops to the minimum weight of 54kg on Saturday, and while she does strike arguably a tougher race in Open company against some of the state’s best sprinters, we are confident she is more than capable. From barrier six, Jim Byrne will find the front on the daughter of Better Than Ready and look to lead all of the way over the 1200m journey. Her second-up record is good, so she should be hard to beat on her favourite track.
Best Value at Eagle Farm – Taaffeite
The stayers get their chance in the third race of the day, and we think that there can be a bit of a surprise winner in the race. Matt Dunn saddles three horses up in this 2218m race, and although Taaffeite is the outsider of the three at $19, we are confident she is the best of the trio. The four-year-old Tavistock mare was a dominant winner at Lismore two starts ago over 2100m as a $1.60 favourite and then blew a gale from $6 out to $12 in her most recent start at this track and distance. She nearly won that race despite the drift, finishing 0.3 lengths off Fu Ni and beating home Lunasnit, who has since run fourth in the Toowoomba Cup and was beaten in a photo in the Listed Queensland Cup last Saturday. Ron Stewart has been booked for the ride from barrier one, which should see Taaffeite either lead or box seat to be right within striking distance in the straight. We are happy to be on each way at big odds.
