Eagle Farm betting preview – March 10, 2021

We are back at Eagle Farm on Wednesday with eight midweek metropolitan races. The track is a Good 4 and the rail is out +11.5m for the entire circumference of the course, so we will be looking towards those on speed. Race 1 is scheduled to jump at 1pm local time.

Best Bet: Twelve Apostles

Kacy Fogden’s Twelve Apostles was a good winner at Ballina on debut, edging out Full Press as the pair spaced third place by three lengths. Two subsequent winners have come out of that race, so the form looks decent. He then went to Ipswich and ran a gallant second to Jakama, who was just too good. Under Mark Du Plessis, he will go forward from barrier six and should prove too fit and fast for his rivals. Back onto a dry track should suit the son of Nicconi as well. This looks a winnable race for the three-year-old gelding, so the double-figure odds are way overs.

Next Best: Whozyadeeler

Whozyadeeler is arguably the best winning chance of the day on Wednesday, but we are just slightly cautious of his racing pattern on a track that might make it hard for him to run down the leaders at a short price. The Tony Gollan-trained four-year-old has simply bolted in to win in both of his career starts, winning by 5.25 lengths on debut over 1200m at this track, and then winning by three lengths at Doomben over the 1350m trip. Up to a mile on Wednesday looks the logical next step, and there will be the option to settle closer from the inside alley under Michael Rodd. With luck in running he will make it three from three.

Best Value: Ascot Express

Barry Baldwin saddles up Ascot Express in a 1400m maiden handicap. The son of Shamexpress has just the one placing to his name from three starts, which came at his most recent outing when third to the promising Karaka Lad at the Sunshine Coast. The four-year-old gelding finished fourth on debut to Defiant Diva at the Gold Coast and then ran sixth behind Deep Sceiva, so his form isn’t awful. A better draw last start allowed him to race in a more forward position, so the inside alley is likely to suit him in a field that lacks speed. The rise to 1400m should also help as he looks to get his maiden out of the way.

Best ValueRace 4 – Ascot Express (#2) $6 with Sportsbet
