Eagle Farm tips, best bets and quaddie picks for July 17

What Eagle Farm Races
Where 230 Lancaster Rd, Ascot QLD
When Saturday July 17th, 2021
First Race 11:48am AEST

HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst has previewed the nine-race program which is set to be run and won at Eagle Farm this Saturday and has highlighted his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for the meeting. Racing on a Good 4 and with the rail out just 1m for the entire course, we should see an even day of racing. The first of nine is set to jump at 11:48am AEST.

Best Bet – Race 2 #2 Shooting For Gold $1.65

We are happy to side with the shortest-priced favourite of the day in the second race in the hope that the talented Shooting For Gold can make it back-to-back wins to start his campaign. The Steven O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained three-year-old has won five of nine career starts and is undefeated at Eagle Farm which is a big advantage given a lot of horses don’t handle the surface. Drawn barrier two for young-gun hoop Baylee Nothdurft, the son of Shooting For Gold will be ridden quietly and allowed to show his devastating turn of foot in the concluding stages of this 1000m dash. He was dominant first-up, and we expect him to be even better this time around.

Next Best – Race 4 #6 Ef Troop $3.80

Another young-gun hoop that can bag a winner on Saturday is Kyle Wilson-Taylor who will partner Tony Gollan’s flyer, Ef Troop. The 3kg-claiming apprentice will likely ride Ef Troop at 52kg, his minimum weight, but we expect that to be a huge advantage for this five-year-old gelding, who will be hoping to win for this first time since December 2019 (Listed Christmas Handicap at Morphettville). The son of Spirit Of Boom returned to the Tony Gollan stable in June where he finished sixth behind Desert Man, before winning a trial at this track over 800m on July 6 by 11 lengths. From barrier six, we hope to see Ef Troop ridden positively and if this is the case, he will be hard to run down.

Best Value – Race 8 #9 Bundyandcoke $23

Before we get too carried away, we do admit that Trevor Miller’s newly acquired three-year-old would be better suited across the road at Doomben and on a wetter track, but the price certainly appeals for an each-way speck. Bundyandcoke stormed onto the scene in February when winning back-to-back Heavy track victories at Doomben after finishing in the placings to a few handy ones, including Batangas Entry on a day where he beat home the eventual Rough Habit Plate winner, Criminal Defence, and impressive Sunshine Coast winner from Sunday’s metropolitan meeting, Derulo. At the end of last prep, this son of Shamus Award was thrown in the deep-end, finishing five lengths behind Glitter Strip, Holyfield, Palladas and Not An Option, as well as a few other Group level three-year-olds. He should get the run to suit from the wide alley under Michael Hellyer and be finishing well late over a hot speed. Bundyandcoke is paying a juicy $23 with Australian online bookmakers.
