Best Bet – Race 8 #2 Master Jamie $4.80

Master Jamie has an impeccable racing record with 13 wins from 22 starts, including a last start win in The Gateway, booking himself a start in the Stradbroke Handicap. That win came back on December 12th, but he brings some trial fitness to the races on Saturday after a 3L trial win at Rockhampton on March 26. He has won three from four at Eagle Farm and has never missed the quinella when first-up. With only 55kg on his back, he gets a 5kg allowance of main danger Vega One and he has drawn barrier two which will see him boot through and lead them for a long way.

Next Best – Race 2 #1 Stellar Magic $2.30

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted will leg Baylee Nothdurft aboard two-year-old filly Stellar Magic. The daughter of Star Turn has just had the three career starts and managed to win and place second on the other two occasions, so she has clear potential. Drawn barrier three she should be able to lead this for the full 1000m course. She does rise 3kg from her last start second but Starantes ran third in that race and has since won franking the form. She looks a speedy type and can go one better this weekend.

Best Value – Race 9 #5 Spring Creek $14

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367013_03]

There’s no hiding the fact that we like are Rockhampton horses and one of our favourites of the lot is Spring Creek. The six-year-old mare won well at her home track in Rocky last start on the 25th of March, beating subsequent winner Daunting Queen. She hasn’t had any luck in her few Brisbane Metro runs with bad barriers, and while gate 10 is no walk in the park, she should be able to find a forward spot under her regular rider Chris Whiteley and be right there at the end of the 1400m.
