Eagle Farm horse racing preview

After a successful return to Eagle Farm, the racing will back up just four days later at Brisbane Headquarters for eight midweek metropolitan races. The track was rated a Soft 7 as of Monday afternoon, but we expect to see a downgrade with more rain forecasted in the Queensland capital over the next 48 hours. The rail will be out +8m for the entire course, while the first field will face the starter at 1:37pm AEST.

Best BetRace 1 – The Ritz (#1) $2.10 with Sportsbet

The Ritz has been beautifully placed by Michael Costa so far, remaining undefeated from two starts. Debuting at Ballina before going on to win in metro grade last start at the Gold Coast, the big three-year-old gelding has taken everything in his stride. He was scratched on Saturday at Eagle Farm and also from a later race on Wednesday with preference to this one, which has attracted just the five starters. He stretches out to a mile for the first time, which will suit him down to the ground. With speed galore from Brigalow Boy and Queen Dazzler, we’re hoping Jimmy Orman can box seat or sit in the one-one from the outside alley. This is a very nice horse and one that is well and truly worth following.

Next BestRace 7 – L’cosmo (#9) $3.20 with Sportsbet

L’cosmo finds herself in the toughest race of the day but the easiest race she has faced in some time. Coming off a ninth at Listed level behind Niedorp last time out when three wide the trip, the David Vandyke-trained mare drops back to Class 2 company here. She won a C2 trial at the Sunshine Coast prior to her last run as easy as you like. In her Queensland debut, she ran a really good second to Thine Is The Power in Benchmark 80 grade, and prior to that was a Sydney Benchmark 70 winner on a Heavy 8 track when beating the talented Sally’s Day. She’s never missed the place on soft tracks and has won on heavy going, which will prove vital here. Having drawn near enough to the outside in both of her starts in Brisbane, she finally draws a good gate here in barrier four, which will see her close to the speed under Thornton. She only rises 1.5kg from her last start Listed run, so we expect her to be too classy in this.

Best ValueRace 3 – One More Field (#6) $8 with Sportsbet

Steve O’Dea saddles up One More Field in what is a very open maiden contest over 1000m. The Deep Field gelding has started as a well-backed favourite on two occasions now, including last start when fourth behind a smart one in The Darling. Compared to the rest of the field, race experience is one thing he has on his side. From barrier six under Steph Thornton, he can go forward and potentially run them into the ground. He has trialled well behind Melo Melo and She’s An Eagle, who are both subsequent winners, so there is no reason why he can’t shake the monkey off his back here. We expect him to break through.
