Eagle Farm dry despite heavy rain

Trainer Liam Birchley (l) and jockey Dale Smith will combine with Say I Cee You at Eagle Farm.

Eagle Farm has been swamped with 140mm of rain in the past week which would usually have trainer Liam Birchley happy for noted wet tracker Say I Cee You.

There have been few wet tracks in Brisbane in recent months as the city sweltered through one of its driest summers on record.

A series of storms have hit Eagle Farm in the past week meaning Saturday’s meeting would usually be run on a soft track.

But the new surface is living up to its billing as one of the best drying tracks in Australia and was rated good on Thursday.

“This track drinks up water at a rapid rate,” Brisbane Racing Club racing manager Matt Rudolph said.

Birchley has noted wet tracker Say I Cee You in the $200,000 Jewel Three-Year-Old which ironically was relocated to Eagle Farm after being washed out at the Gold Coast last week.

Say I Cee You would be big odds on a dry track but he is unbeaten on rain-affected tracks.

His best win was in a Toowoomba metropolitan standard three-year-old handicap when he beat promising gallopers Spending My Time and Thunderous Strike on a soft track.

Dale Smith, who rode the gelding to win at the Sunshine Coast and at Toowoomba, will again be aboard .

Say I Cee You trialled at Deagon two weeks ago and was a solid second.

“It was a handy trial and some more rain wouldn’t hurt him,” Birchley said.
