Eagle Farm race betting preview – February 25, 2021
Eight races will be run and won at Eagle Farm on Thursday in what will be the last meeting before midweek metropolitan racing in Queensland returns to Wednesdays. The track is currently rated a Good 4, the rail is out +9.5m for the entire course, and the first race is due to jump at 1:45pm local time.
Best Bet: Evita La Vie
Chris Meagher and Mark Du Plessis combine with Evita La Vie in an 1800m maiden. The four-year-old mare by Sidestep ran second at this track a month ago to A Big Chance and finished ahead of Le Heros, who has since won in brilliant fashion. After being back to the trials between races, she should be fit enough to step out to 1800m for the first time. She has settled at the rear in her last few runs, but the low draw in gate two gives Du Plessis the option to settle a touch closer, which will help due to lack of speed and a potential leader’s bias. The form out of Evita La Vie’s last run has stacked up, so she should win this.
We are hoping Kubrick drifts to a more backable price, because he is a touch unders at the odds-on quote. Chris Waller’s gelding won a million-dollar race back in October 2019 but has failed to return to the winner’s stall since. He placed second at his only prior start at this track, which came at Group 1 level in his two-year-old season when 0.2 lengths behind Prince Fawaz in the J.J. Atkins. First up with 54.5kg at Class 6 level should see him home in the small field of six.
Pull Anchor was our best bet on Saturday in a similar race but was scratched behind the gates, so we are happy to take the $4.50 on Thursday instead of the odds-on. Back to the 1200m is a massive advantage after she peaked on her run at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m last time out when second to Lunar Light. Barrier two and Madeline Wishart’s 3kg claim give her every chance to return to the winner’s circle in the last race of the afternoon.
