Matt Dunn predicts big future for Magic Millions Cup winner Care to Think
Care To Think has given trainer Matt Dunn his biggest thrill in racing in the Magic Millions Cup.
Trainer Matt Dunn admits Care To Think’s win in the $1 million Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast is the biggest moment of his career but he thinks the gelding can take him even further.
A daring plan to go forward from a wide barrier on Care To Think ($3.10) nearly came unstuck when he was posted three-deep without cover for much Saturday’s 1400m-race.
But Care to Think was too strong at the finish beating Arbeitsam ($14) by 1-1/4 lengths with 2-1/2 lengths to Snippets Land ($31) third.
“It didn’t go exactly to plan but he is such a good horse. He has won five races in a row now and on each occasion he has taken another step up,” Dunn said.
“I have said all along I hope this horse can take me to where I want to be as a Group One trainer. He will just need to keep stepping up.
“I won the QTIS race last year with Madotti which was a real thrill but I have to say this tops it.”
Dunn said he would now monitor Care To Think in the next few days before setting about heading south in the autumn.
“There are plenty of races in Sydney and Melbourne for him. We have travelled him for the Highway Series in Sydney when he won at Randwick,” Dunn said.
Care To Think was one of the cheapest buys running at the Magic Millions day, costing $16,5000 as a yearling.
He has now won $840,000 prize money for his owners, a group of self confessed batters who nearly brought the grandstand down with their cheers at the finish.
“My bloodstock agent Neil Jenkinson picked him out and again shows how good Neil is at his trade,” Dunn said.
Care To Think clocked 1.20.72 which was just outside the race and course record.
Winning jockey Jeff Lloyd said Care To Think had again shown he was a horse with enormous potential.
