Doomben Races Betting Preview – February 18, 2021

Doomben will host its third meeting in the space of seven days on Thursday afternoon for Queensland’s midweek metropolitan meeting. The track is currently a Soft 5, although wet weather has been forecasted for the coming days, while the rail is in the +6m position. The first of eight races will jump at 1:21pm local time.

Best Bet: Whozyadeeler

Tony Gollan will saddle up his promising four-year-old Whozyadeeler in start number two on Thursday in a 1350m Class 1. The gelded son of Dundeel was ultra-impressive on debut at Eagle Farm over 1200m, coming from near last to loop the field and win in a canter by 5.25 lengths. His breeding suggests he will enjoy the extra distance and likely continue to step out further as he progresses. Drawn well in barrier six, Michael Rodd will find himself in a good spot with cover to save the lightly raced gelding for one late swoop. He looks a pretty smart horse in what is far from a strong field, so we’d be disappointed to take the shorts and see him go down.

Best BetRace 4 – Whozyadeeler (#1) $1.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Head Legislator

Headwater gelding Head Legislature was unlucky not to win at this track a fortnight ago when he lost in a head-bob to Hey Big Splenda. He had no room in the straight but railed hard to dive through and miss over 1110m. He goes up slightly in trip to 1200m and has drawn out in barrier 10, which will see him settle in the back half of the field again under Luke Dittman and follow a hot speed into it. He might be in the best part of the track out wide.

Next BestRace 1 – Head Legislator (#5) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Dansant

Dansant comes out of the same race as Head Legislator, which is a form line we are keen to follow. The Steve Tregea-trained filly was seven lengths off Miami Fleiss in third two starts back and then ran three lengths off Hey Big Splenda a fortnight ago in fifth. She goes back to maiden grade against her own age and sex on Thursday and steps out to 1200m for the first time, which can only suit. From barrier three with Larry Cassidy onboard, she will stalk the speed and should have the fitness edge late to get her maiden out of the way. Race favourite Sonic Arrow looks a genuine non-winner, so we are keen to take that one on.

Best ValueRace 2 – Dansant (#1) $5.50 with Sportsbet
