Doomben tips for April 10, 2021

What Doomben Races
Where Doomben Racecourse – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007
When Saturday, April 10, 2021
First Race 11:43am AEST

Doomben will host nine races on the five-day turnaround from Easter Monday on what is going to be another bog track. The track was rated a Heavy 9 as of Thursday afternoon, but sunshine is predicted up until race morning, so we could see a Soft 7 with some luck. The rail is out 2.5m for the entirety of the course. HorseBetting.com.au brings you our best bets, value tips and quaddie numbers for Saturday’s meeting, which will jump at 11:43am local time.

Best Bet: Amiche

David Vandyke and Steph Thornton are in for a good afternoon, we feel, and the pair combine in the fourth with the classy Amiche. The four-year-old mare has won four of her eight career starts, including a dominant display at this track on March 3 over the 1050m when resuming. The daughter of Nicconi has won twice at 1200m, so the rise in trip second up is of little concern. Drawn well in barrier eight, Thornton will take Amiche forward to find a positive spot and should put her in the best part of the track in the straight as she looks to win her fifth race.

Best BetRace 4 – Amiche (#13) $2.10 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Cloak

Another from the Vandyke yard who we are keen on is Cloak. This five-year-old gelding knows where the winning post is, amassing nearly $250,000 in prizemoney with six wins from 20 starts. The son of Medaglia d’Oro comes off a third behind Vanna Girl, who is one of Queensland’s top mares, when first up off a decent spell. He has won two of three when second up and is undefeated over the Doomben mile which he gets here. Ryan Maloney will do the steering from barrier six, which should see him in the third pair outside with plenty of room to put this field to bed in the straight.

Next BestRace 3 – Cloak (#1) $3.80 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Simply Fly

Steph Thornton hops aboard another quality gelding in Simply Fly. The three-year-old has won six of his eight career starts, including a dominant display in the 3YO QTIS Jewel on the Gold Coast on March 13. The Rex Lipp-trained gelding does step back to 1050m after his 1200m win last start and meets runner-up Zingalong 6kg worse off at the weights, which is probably why we are getting each-way odds. Simply Fly did look to have a fair bit left up his sleeve, he handles the Heavy going and draws to be out the back and finishing off the better down the middle, which is where they’ll be running on.

Best ValueRace 7 – Simply Fly (#1) $6.50 with Sportsbet
