Doomben plays host to nine races on Saturday afternoon as the track faces a two day turn-around. We are racing on a Good 4, and the rail will be moved back to the +1.5m for the entire circumference after they raced in the +11m position on Thursday which will make the inside lanes fresh ground. The first race will face the starter at 12:22pm.
Best Bet – Race 9 #7 Garibaldi $1.95
The ultimate gear change worked an absolute treat for Tony Gollan’s now-gelding, Garibaldi. The son of I Am Invincible returned this campaign with a narrow second and then followed that up winning three straight; all in good style. Now looking to make it a fourth picket in his fence, the four-year-old will be getting all of the favours from barrier 6 under Michael Rodd in this 1200m Class 6 Plate. He should settle just off the pace which will be hot, and be coming into it at the business end.
Next Best – Race 3 #2 Azzareach $2.80
Dan Bougoure saddles up his last-start winner Azzareach in a Colts & Geldings QTIS 3YO Handicap over 1200m. There is plenty of speed in the race, so hopefully from the inside alley Ron Stewart can take a sit and box seat. He has had the one race at Doomben in the past where he finished second to Bleu Zebra who has since won again. He has won two from four, and this looks the perfect race for him to make it three from five.
Best Value – Race 5 #14 Portuguese Tart $10
Portuguese Tart can figure here after running a terrific second in Sydney two starts back behind. Pinnacle Prince and then ran a good third to Chivargo and Ingear seven days ago. That form should stand up here and she brings race fitness into it as well. From barrier 10, Leah Kilner will look to slot in somewhere handy on the seven-year-old mare and save her for one last shot at them with the 51kg. At $10, we are very keen to have a bet.
