Doomben betting preview

Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5 after some rain on Wednesday, but drying conditions should lead to an upgrade by the time the first race jumps at 12:13pm local time. The rail moves out +2m for the entirety of the course.

Best BetRace 1 – Sugar Boom (#1) $1.80 with Sportsbet

Sugar Boom trialled exceptionally last week and ran a time in doing so. She flies first up and the 1050m will suit her greatly. Georgie Cartwright takes the ride and uses her claim to get the weight down to just 59.5kg, which should prove extremely beneficial. From barrier five, they’ll go forward and lead this field easily as they make every post a winner. This is a big class drop for her and she’ll be too good.

Next BestRace 7 – Glenall (#1) $3.60 with Sportsbet

Glenall joined the Kelly Schweida stable after failing in the Epsom last start. He has shown good form in some quality races and drops back to Open company in Queensland, which will be a lot easier. Senior rider Jim Byrne hops on and will settle midfield with a back to follow from barrier nine. Fourth up now, the seven-year-old gelding will be peaking and gets in well at the weights despite carrying the top. He should win this against a fairly plain bunch.

Best ValueRace 6 – North Afrika (#4) $17 with Sportsbet

Flying the Central Queensland flag in town on Saturday is North Afrika, who is looking to make it five wins in a row. After being scratched on race morning in the Cairns Cup when he was a short favourite – and let’s face it, he was a sure thing that day – he looks to have come through his injury well with a good trial victory at Rockhampton on October 9. He generally takes some time to get fit, with no placings from five first-up runs, but he carries residual fitness from the winter, so we don’t expect him to be too fresh at all. He will lead this easily enough from barrier five under Ryan Wiggins and be very hard to catch.
