Friday racing tips for Doomben
Doomben hosts a rare Friday twilight meeting this week, highlighted by the Doomben Mile. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 6.5m for the entire circumference of the course. The first of seven races will jump at 2:34pm local time.
Ballistic Boy looks in for a big summer after his gritty win at the Sunshine Coast three weeks ago in the Mooloolaba Cup. He was heavily supported on that occasion and did just enough to beat So You Win, who has since won. He stays at a mile and rises 2kg in weight but should be nearly peaking third up. From gate six, McGillivray will settle in the back half of the field on the outside of horses, which will give the big boy the space he needs to wind up around Doomben. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t win this.
We’re still trying to pick ourselves up off the floor from a fortnight ago when Platinum Euros absolutely rattled home to be beaten a lip by notorious non-winner Garibaldi. The Nat McCall-trained gelding was shooting for three in a row in a bid to remain undefeated, but he fell just short. He now rises to 1200m, drops 2.5kg and is drawn ideally in barrier two to settle off the hot pace. Glen Boss will ride the the son of Eurozone here, which is a massive get. He can bounce back.
Reality couldn’t have been more impressive on debut despite not actually winning the race. The four-year-old gelding had trialed well leading up to his debut run and was heavily backed, from $6 into $2.70 favouritism, but just didn’t get the right run to beat I Am Thirty. There was a gap of 4.5 lengths back to third, however, which was good to see. He’ll be better for the experience and should be good enough to win his maiden here.
