|Where||Doomben Racecourse – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007|
|When||Wednesday, September 1, 2021|
|First Race||12:33pm AEST|
Spring has officially sprung, so what better way to see in the new season than with an eight-race metropolitan card at Doomben on Wednesday? HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you all of his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is set to start at 12:33pm AEST. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is in the +10m position.
Doomben Best Bet: Frosty Mango
Tony Gollan and Jim Byrne combine with last-start winner Frosty Mango in the third race of the afternoon in a bid to go back-to-back. The Hinchinbrook filly was narrowly beaten on debut at the Gold Coast over an unsuitable 900m trip, before winning in good time at this track and distance on August 18 when defeating Sooblond. On that same day, Weneiri won the following race by almost two lengths but ran half a second slower than Frosty Mango, and they meet again here after finishing second and third in the same race two starts ago. Frosty Mango has drawn ideally in barrier four, which will see her settle on the speed and take some serious catching with the rail out 10m.
Next Best at Doomben: Shosha
We will be cheering for a race-to-race double for Queensland’s premier trainer when he legs up Stephanie Thornton aboard last-start winner Shosha. The lightly race five-year-old broke through at start five on August 11 at this track and trip, leading all of the way to win by 1.25 lengths. The Deep Impact mare was very well backed that day, but this race is a touch harder. Thornton retains the ride, which is a big plus given how well she got the horse to relax last time out, and considering she has drawn slightly awkwardly in gate seven, if she is to lead and win like she did last time out, she will need to relax in the run again. If Shosha does everything right, she should win this.
