First Race 11:58am AEST

HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst, Nicholas Lloyd, brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the nine-race card at Doomben this Saturday. With a bit of rain around the River City on Thursday and Friday, the track will be in the Soft range for Saturday’s racing, while the rail will be out 4.5m for the entire course. The opening race of the day is set to go at 11:58am AEST.

Doomben Best Bet: Contemptuous

In what is a tricky card on Saturday at Doomben, there is a bit of value to be found in all nine races. The third race is a great example, with three horses rated between $4.20 and $4.80, but we are confident that Contemptuous can get the job done. The son of Rubick was a dominant winner at Eagle Farm on September 8 when defeating his stablemate Better Get Set, who won very well at Ipswich on Wednesday to frank the form. Contemptuous has only had one start over 1200m, which he won by 2.5 lengths at Ipswich, so the distance will be no concern. The O’Dea & Hoysted stable are flying, so too is Jaden Lloyd, and the horse is a winning machine also, so at the $4.80 we are very happy to play.

Best BetRace 3 – Contemptuous (#3) $4.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Doomben: Rebel Salute

Rebel Salute looks very well placed in the second race of the day, especially if it rains like we are expecting. The gelded son of Deep Field has finished in the first two past the post in 11 of his 13 starts and absolutely relishes wet tracks, winning two from three on Heavy surfaces. In three starts this campaign, Rebel Salute has won once and finished second on the two other occasions, with both losing margins being a tenth of a length, so he is stiff to not be three from three. Drawn in barrier 10 under Jimmy Orman, he will get back in the run and be charging home through the slop. He looks ready for 1350m now.

Next BestRace 2 – Rebel Salute (#2) $3.80 with Sportsbet

Best Value at Doomben: King Klaus

We harp on about it every two weeks when King Klaus goes around, but while bills keep getting paid by this four-legged ATM machine, we will keep tipping him. Bundaberg is well known for its Rum, but Gary Clem’s six-year-old could quickly overtake the Bundy Bear as the town’s poster boy if he can win his 11th race on Saturday. The son of Love Conquers All had won four straight races going in to a 900m Open Handicap at the Gold Coast on September 18, and despite being involved in a speed battle with Sugar Boom, the gelding toughed it out and ran second, beaten only a length by the $1.80 favourite, The Move. This race will be no different with plenty of speed engaged once again by the likes of Tavisan, Spaceboy, Le Palmier and The Odyssey, but what King Klaus has that those other runners don’t is a serious will to win. He has drawn poorly in barrier nine, but if he can find cover up on the speed, he will be there at the finish.

Best ValueRace 8 – King Klaus (#4) $6 with Sportsbet
