What Doomben Races
Where Doomben Racecourse – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007
When Wednesday, May 26, 2021
First Race 12:33pm AEST

Doomben will put on eight metropolitan races on Wednesday afternoon from 12:33pm local time. After hosting Group 1 racing on Saturday, the rail has been moved out a further 3m to the 5m position and the track remains a Soft 5. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets and quaddie selections for the program.

Best Bet: Hard Labour

Trent & Toby Edmonds saddle up their talented gelding Hard Labour in the final race of the day. The four-year-old son of All Too Hard has won four from seven and returned this campaign with a good fifth at Class 6 level behind Fender and Garibaldi, which is good form for this. Hard Labour is undefeated second-up and was a strong winner over the 1350m trip at this course last campaign in similar class. Expect this runner to be midfield under regular rider Robbie Fradd and then cutting into the margin late. This can be win number five.

Best BetRace 8 – Hard Labour (#10) $3.90 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Wowsers

Chris Munce will send around consistent galloper Wowsers in the penultimate race on Wednesday. After leading the field last start in Class 3 company, the four-year-old was unable to fend off well-backed favourite See Marie despite kicking back hard in the concluding stages. Ryan Wiggins has only the one ride on Wednesday, which is not a bad lead, and although Wowsers is stepping up in grade, we are prepared to say that this is an easier race. Wiggins is a great front-running rider, which is what he will do here aboard the son of The Wow Signal in a bid to get him back in the winner’s stall after four consecutive placings.

Next BestRace 7 – Wowsers (#4) $4 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Triangulum

Robert Heathcote and Kate Cowan combine in the fourth with a dominant last-start winner in Triangulum. The son of Deep Field was heavily backed at the Gold Coast on May 15 when winning by four lengths on a bottomless track. His form prior to that run wasn’t all that flash, so the double-figure odds aren’t all that surprising, especially on a dryer track. Barrier 11 is a sticky gate for apprentice hoop Cowan, but she will be riding with confidence after a metropolitan win on Saturday and her 3kg claim will be very useful. If Triangulum finds a handy spot in the run, he can go back-to-back.

Best ValueRace 4 – Triangulum (#3) $18 with Sportsbet
