A patron-free Doomben will host eight metropolitan races this Wednesday on what will be the second day of Brisbane’s three-day lockdown. The track was rated a Soft 5 on Tuesday morning, so we could see an upgrade by the time of the first come 12:51pm AEST on Wednesday afternoon. The rail will be out 6m for the entire circumference of the course. HorseBetting.com.au’s Queensland form analyst has found his best bets, value picks and quadrella selections for the standalone meeting.
Best Bet: Kipchoge
We are giving this bloke one more chance. Kipchoge, trained by Tony Gollan, has placed in four of his five races without breaking through yet. He looked all but home in his most recent outing, which came over 1200m on a very wet Heavy 10; after going to the front and trying to run his rivals into the ground, he was only reeled in late by the well-backed Hot Escort. Onto a drier track, up to 1350m and with Michael Rodd aboard, the son of Rich Enuff can make amends and win his maiden on Wednesday.

Next Best: Skins
This is going to be the race of the afternoon between the David Vandyke-trained pair Amiche and Skins. We are siding with the lightly raced five-year-old in Skins, who will resume after winning well at this track back in October. The son of Sepoy started off his career with two good wins and a third before having over 12 months on the sidelines. He resumed last campaign splitting Sugar Boom and Niewand before his most recent win, which came by 2.75 lengths. With Ryan Maloney aboard from barrier seven, he will have a softer run than his stable mate, who has drawn gate nine, but Amiche does have race fitness on her side. Still, we are hoping Skins can resume a winner.
Race 6 – Skins (#6)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1364956_06]
Best Value: Morendi
Eight-year-old gelding Morendi has found a new love for racing after putting in two monster runs to finish third and second respectively in his most recent outings. Now fourth up, he should be rock-hard fit and ready to win at a course where he has triumphed four times. Having his 75th start on Wednesday, the old timer trained by Melissa Kelly doesn’t win out of turn and arguably needs further, but he does find himself in a weaker race than he has been running in. James Orman has found the key to him in his last two runs and will be hoping to go one better in this.
