Doomben racing preview
Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday on a Heavy 8 track with the rail in the +3m position for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 will jump at 12:23pm local time, while the two features – the Gold Edition Plate at 4:52pm and the Lough Neagh Stakes at 5:30pm – will round out the card.
Chris Waller’s So You Win has been consistent this campaign, winning two of his last three with his only defeat coming narrowly to Ballistic Boy. The son of So You Think renews hostilities with Get Stuck In, who he just got the better of last start. That horse meets So You Win 1.5kg better at the weights on Saturday, but our top pick gets a much better run in transit from gate three. He’ll be two or three pairs back and should be rock-hard fit to finish over the top of them. He is a four-time winner on soft tracks and is two from three over the Doomben 2000m course. Expect him to win again here in the silks made famous by Winx.

Toby and Trent Edmonds link up with Robbie Fradd in the sixth in a bid to complete a hat-trick of wins with Global Citizen. The four-year-old son of I Am Invincible has won by a cumulative margin of three lengths in his last two starts at the Gold Coast and Ipswich respectively. Drawn out in barrier 11, he’ll cross the face of them in an attempt to lead all the wayd. He has only run on rain-affected tracks once in his career when he won on debut over 1200m, so he should handle the slop. He drops in weight and faces a fairly ordinary bunch here, so he should be too good again.

In what is one of the more open races of the afternoon, Tom Button’s speedy mare Gypsy Toff looks a great each-way play. Coming off a 1.1-length fourth behind Niedorp in a Listed mares race last start, the 11-time winner looks beautifully placed here over the 1110m in Benchmark 85 company. She is a heavy-track winner and has never missed the place on soft tracks, so she will be at an advantage here. Drawn barrier one, she’ll show her customary gate speed to rail through and try to make every post a winner. We expected her to be half the price she is here.
