Doomben tips for Saturday March 27 2021

What Doomben Races
Where Doomben – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007
When Saturday, March 27, 2021
First Race 11:42AM

Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse will play host to nine metropolitan races on Saturday afternoon. The track is rated a Heavy 10 after the river city received plenty of rain over the past week. The rail is out just the half-metre for the entire circumference of the course, so it should play fairly. Horsebetting.com.au’s Queensland form analyst, Nick Lloyd, has found you his best bets, value picks and Quaddie selections for the nine race card which kicks off at 11:42am.

Best Bet: Bundyandcoke

While a Rum and Coke might be the perfect way in our book to celebrate a fill up on the punt, Alan Robinson’s three-year-old gelding Bundyandcoke will hopefully be the runner that provides us with full pockets in the fourth. The son of Shamus Award has won his last two starts in very good fashion at this track on Heavy going; which he will be dealt with again on Saturday. Drawn barrier six under regular rider Jimmy Orman, the big striding gelding will land in a suitable position in the middle of the field and will come with big bounds late. The form around him has been very good, with three subsequent winners being produced from his maiden victory two starts back. Up to 1350m is perfect so we expect to see him winning. Five Bundy and Cokes please barkeep!

Best BetRace 4 – Bundyandcoke (#3) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Weona Smartone

The aptly named Weona Smartone has won his past two starts by a combined margin of six and a half lengths. Both wins came on his home track, the Sunshine Coast, but he has had a good look around Doomben when fifth on debut here. His only soft track effort came with a four length victory over subsequent winner Yourjokingmeright who gapped third by a furth five and a half lengths; so it is fair to say he bolted in. After a six-month spell, the David Vandyke-trained gelding has had a trial which he won in comfortable fashion to bring him right on for this first-up assignment. Gate seven is ideal under Mark Du Plessis who will take the son of Shamexpress to the front and be too hard to catch. Check live odds via the top betting apps.

Next BestRace 6 – Weona Smartone (#14) $2.15 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Dalmatia Prince

Todd Howlett takes his consistent son of Denman to Doomben for the first time in his 58-start career. The seven-year-old generally races in midweek Sydney metropolitan grade which should stack up well here. He relishes heavy going and should be the fit horse on the scene fifth up into this campaign. Drawn barrier five under Du Plessis, he should be able to push through and dictate this staying event that looks to have no other early speed. A lot of his rivals are dropping back from 2400m to 2000m, whereas this Sydneysider is rising from 1800m which looks more suitable. He can win this on the heavy track. Dalmatia Prince is also paying around the $10 quote with Aussie bookies, which is why we consider it a great value tip at Doomben.

Value BetRace 2 – Dalmatia Prince (#6) $10 with Sportsbet
