Doomben betting tips – March 17, 2021

Doomben will play host to eight metropolitan races on Wednesday afternoon, should the forecasted rain hold off a touch longer. The track was rated a Soft 7 on Monday, but we could be dealing with a Heavy track come race day. The rail is out +10m for the entire circumference of the course, so look towards betting on leaders from low gates. Race 1 is scheduled to jump at 1:05pm local time.

Best Bet: Kipchoge

Tony Gollan and Bobby El-Issa combine with maiden gelding Kipchoge, who resumes from a decent spell. With natural early speed, the son of Rich Enuff should jump in front and stay there from the inside alley. Having had four career starts, the three-year-old has placed in his past three and comes into this first-up assignment off a soft trial last month. While he is yet to see a wet track, he may just get all of the favours if he jumps well.

Best BetRace 3 – Kipchoge (#2) $4.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Blue Odyssey

One galloper who definitely appreciates a Heavy track is Natalie McCall’s Blue Odyssey. The Sunshine Coast-trained four-year-old has won his last two starts, first at Ipswich and then on his home deck, and now comes to Doomben for the first time in a 1050m Benchmark 75. The Charge Forward gelding has won two and placed another two times in five wet-track starts and shows enough gate speed to get outside the leader from the outside barrier (9). As long as they don’t overdo it in front, he will be the fit horse on the scene at the business end and can continue on with his progression through the grades.

Next BestRace 6 – Blue Odyssey (#3) $4.60 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Snitzari

Kris Lees and Andrew Mallyon combine with Snitzari in the last race of the day in a bid to get her first Queensland win out of the way. Six weeks ago she was fourth behind QTIS 3YO Jewel winner Simply Fly at the Sunshine Coast, before running third to Sweet Rhapsody and Queen Sweeper at Eagle Farm. Last start she struggled to make an impact in a slowly run 1000m sprint, so the rise in trip to 1110m and a bit more speed in this will suit. Drawn in barrier four, Mallyon will be positive and find cover as he looks to let the three-year-old filly bring her Heavy track form to the fore.

Best ValueRace 8 – Snitzari (#11) $7 with Sportsbet
