HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst has previewed Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting at Doomben and brings you his best bets for the eight-race card. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 11m for the entire course, which could favour those that settle handy in the run. The first race is set to jump at 12:20pm AEST.

Doomben Best Bet: Puntura

Robbie Patterson and Samantha Collett combine with New Zealand gelding Puntura in the opening leg of the quaddie in a 1660m Class 5 Handicap. The three-year-old son of Our Vespa has won four races in an eight-start career and now lines up in his second Australian start. After running behind Ayrton in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Day, the Kiwi galloper finds a massive class drop and rises only 2kg. Puntura can be positive from barrier four under his regular rider and should lap up the rain-affected surface.

Best BetRace 5 – Puntura (#2) $10 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Doomben: East Asia

Robert Heathcote’s East Asia is another who finds herself back in grade drastically, coming through a fifth placing in the Listed Spear Chief Handicap to a Benchmark 72, and drops from 1500m to the 1350m at Doomben. The four-year-old mare finished second in her stable debut to Centrefire back in April before running third behind Rock Amore at Ipswich in this same grade over the same trip. She then went to Gosford and was well beaten in The Coast, but the form behind Brandenburg and Nudge is good. She has drawn well under Luke Dittman in barrier five and will be able to settle handy in the run as she looks for her first win with the Heathcote stable.

Next BestRace 8 – East Asia (#11) $5 with Sportsbet

Doomben Value Bet: Rari

Four-year-old gelding Rari comes into this first-up, and although he has drawn the carpark in gate 16, he will be able to cruise over, find the front and be hard to beat. Sheriden Tomlinson claims 3kg, which will see the son of Sizzling in with just 57kg. First-up last campaign he led most of the way but was beaten by Georgie’s Pride, which has proved to be a very strong formline throughout the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Rari and Degas are the class of the field, and we expect them to fight it out.

Best ValueRace 7 – Rari (#1) $8.50 with Sportsbet
