What Doomben Races
Where Doomben Racecourse – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007
When Wednesday, August 18, 2021
First Race 12:33pm AEST

HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for Doomben’s eight-race program on Wednesday, August 18. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 8m for the entire course, which is likely to give the advantage to horses that are up on the speed. The opening race is set to jump at 12:33pm AEST.

Best Bet at Doomben: Shijin

Scott Morrisey’s consistent mare Shijin was game in defeat when second at this track and trip four starts ago behind East Asia. She was then fourth at the Gold Coast on July 24 in a race which has proved to be a strong form reference, before delivering a strong all-the-way win on August 7. Jaden Lloyd’s claim gets the six-year-old’s weight down to 52kg, and from barrier one, she should be straight into the pilot role. In a field of just six, Shijin should be too good for a bunch who look to be past their best.

Best BetRace 2 – Shijin (#5) $1.95 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet at Doomben: Frosty Mango

Tony Gollan and Jim Byrne combine in the third with three-year-old filly Frosty Mango, who will be hoping can go one better after a narrow second-placing on debut. The daughter of Hinchinbrook led on the inside of two other runners over the 900m course and had to give a kick after being pressured throughout but got nabbed on the line by Mishani Sniper, who simply had a better run in transit and a sharper turn of foot. That horse went around at Eagle Farm on Saturday and ran a very good second to the talented Legal Esprit, so the form is solid. Byrne will look to send Frosty Mango forward from barrier nine again, but at the 1200m she should be able to control the tempo a bit more. She should be too classy.

Next BestRace 3 – Frosty Mango (#1) $4 with Sportsbet

Next Best Again at Doomben: Way Beyond

Stuart Kendrick and Baylee Nothdurft combined for victory on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast on one at big odds, and we will be hoping they can get another value winner home in the sixth on Wednesday with Way Beyond. The four-year-old gelding has had two runs back this campaign for two placings over 1200m and 1300m and now steps out to the mile, which is where he has brought up his two career victories. From gate two, Nothdurft will have the son of Spill The Beans a bit closer to the speed than we have seen him in his last couple, which is going to be a big advantage on Wednesday. Now third-up, Way Beyond should be reaching peak fitness, so we expect to see another strong showing.

Next Best AgainRace 6 – Way Beyond (#3) $3.40 with Sportsbet
