Doomben horse betting tips – Wednesday, March 3

Midweek metropolitan racing returns to Wednesdays in Queensland this week, and the Brisbane Racing Club has turned it on with a cracking eight-part card from Doomben. The track is currently rated a Soft 6, while the rail is out in the +8m position for the entire circumference of the course. The first race of the day will see the maiden gallopers face the starter at 1:35pm local time.

Best Bet: The Move

In what is probably the best and toughest race of the day, we are with The Move from the Tony Gollan yard. The four-year-old gelded son of Hinchinbrook has won two of his eight races, including a six-length demolition job first up last campaign, and we see no reason why he can’t reproduce that fresh effort on Wednesday based on what we saw at the trials. Drawn on the outside under Ryan Maloney, he should come over to the fence, find the front and prove too hard to catch. The gelding has won once at the 1000m and once at the 1100m, so the 1050m should be right up his alley, and the rail being out 8m should only benefit him from the front. His third behind The Odyssey and Garibaldi three starts ago has proved to be cracking form.

Next Best: Skins

This is another tricky race, but we are keen to see the return of David Vandyke’s five-year-old Skins. Ryan Maloney does the steering here too, and he will have to overcome another wide barrier in gate 10, but he looks to have a fair engine under him. Skins was runner-up to Sugar Boom in his first run last campaign before going on to win his next start by 2.75 lengths at Doomben over the 1110m, beating Mort Doyle and recent Saturday metro winner Leadership Spill. He will land in a spot where he is comfortable and look to finish over the top of tiring leaders due to the hot tempo that is likely to be set by Ingear, Viking Raid and Shadow Of Time. Skins can make it four from six.

Best Value: Bundyandcoke

Alan Robinson and Jimmy Orman combine again with the impressive last-start winner Bundyandcoke. The three-year-old gelded son of Shamus Award came from near last on the turn to swoop down the middle of the track and win by two lengths in comfortable style a fortnight ago at this track and distance in maiden grade, and now he finds himself in a handy 3YO Class 1 Plate with seven other last-start winners. Drawn in barrier five, he will get back and look to charge home late again. He was a bit fired up last start, so Robinson has put the pre-race ear muffs on for the first time, which should see him much more relaxed. If he has improved at all, he will win this.

Best ValueRace 6 – Bundyandcoke (#1) $10 with Sportsbet
