Doomben ideal for Time Lord

Richard Collett believes his stakes performer Time Lord will be in his element in Brisbane.

The Pukekohe Park trainer has the prized Queensland winter carnival three-year-old series on the Guillotine gelding’s programme.

“He handles wet ground and he can race on the speed so Doomben will suit him,” Collett said.

“He’ll run in the Rough Habit Plate on Saturday week and, all going well, the Grand Prix Stakes and then into the Queensland Derby.

“I haven’t worked out a rider yet, but there’s no shortage of good jockeys over there.” Time Lord finished second against the older horses two starts back before he was a solid third on his home track behind stablemate Azaboy in the Group 2 Championship Stakes (2100m).

“The best two runs of his preparation have been his last two and he’s come through that last race really well,” Collett said. Plans for Azaboy have yet to be confirmed, although a spell is likely for the son of Azamour.

“We’re just taking him along quietly, his last run took more out of him than Time Lord,” Collett said.

“Azaboy gives 100 per cent every time and it was a great result at Pukekohe, that was his main goal and he peaked for it.

“He’ll have a saddle on his back on Monday and we’ll see how he is. He may go straight to the paddock.”

Meanwhile, the covers will come off a younger member of the stable on Friday when Fluorobus makes his debut in the Mount Shop 1200m at Pukekohe Park. The Helmet juvenile won his only trial at Te Awamutu last month in the hands of Andrew Calder, who will again ride the youngster.

“I don’t know that he beat much, but he’s a nice horse,” Collett said.

“He should go well and he’ll make a better three-year-old.”
