Doomben Horse Betting Preview – Wednesday, 30th December 2020

Eight metropolitan races will be run and won at Doomben for the last time in 2020, and it is a nice card to see in the New Year. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail is out +10.5m for the entire circumference of the course.
The first of eight will face the starter at 1:05pm local time.

Best BetRace 3 – Bellissimi Amici (#5) $9.50 with Sportsbet

Robert Heathcoate has a nice couple of horses going around on Wednesday, but the best winning chance comes up in the third race; a class 2 over 1350m. Last-start third placegetter, Bellissimi Amici looks well placed back in grade and up in weight only 1kg. After finishing third to Garibaldi and L’Cosmo, the Rothesay filly finds herself against some much easier opposition. She settled at the rear of the field last time out and worked home nicely against the fence, so should appreciate the rise in trip to a distance where she boasts a good record. She’ll get back in the run again here, but there is enough speed to set it up for her to finish home over the top.

Next BestRace 5 – Bleu Zebra (#8) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Bleu Zebra was a well-backed favourite last time out in a quality three-year-old race at Doomben which has since seen the winner, Mishani Miss triumphant again, aswell as two other runners win their next race. Tony Gollan’s filly is a very handy horse, and maps to land in front under Georgie Cartwright from barrier 8. She drops significantly in grade here and comes up against some pretty average horses compared to what she is used to, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see her give them a galloping lesson in this.

Best ValueRace 7 – Jubai Pride (#7) $8.50 with Sportsbet

One of the tougher races of the day is the seventh on the card, but we were really pleased with what we saw from Jubai Pride at this track two Saturdays ago. The three-year-old John Gilmore trained filly finished fourth behind Kaoru King over 1050m in a 0-70 race, but worked home very well in restricted room and was strong through the line. She steps back to race against horses her own age here and will be suited by what will be a quicker tempo over the 1200m trip. The outside alley will suit her in the small field, as she can be snagged back towards the tail of the field under Larry Cassidy. The race has the likes of Hancora Field, Boom Spender, Aspen Lad and Kingston’s Here who are all very smart, but she was a hidden gem and we might get a good price about her here, so she is definitely worth a good each-way play.
