HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets for Wednesday’s eight-race program at Doomben. The track is rated a Soft 6 and the rail is out 9m for the entire course – a further 5.5m from Saturday’s meeting, where the track played towards the leaders. The first race is set to jump at 12:43pm AEST.
Doomben Best Bet: Morethannumberone
Michael Costa may have produced another top-class thoroughbred with Morethannnumberone. The four-year-old gelding has had 16 starts for only two wins but is one from one for the Gold Coast-based trainer. The son of More Than Ready kicked his campaign off at Grafton with an ultra-impressive 1.5-length win after bungling the start in the 1100m race. That win came at Benchmark 58 grade, and he now steps up to Class 3 company in a small field of seven. Andrew Mallyon partnered the gelding in both lead-up trials and in his first-up win, so he knows the horse well. The ride will need to be a good one from the outside alley, but we anticipate Morehtannumberone will be out the back and coming down the centre of the track to win again. He looks smart and we are confident he can go on with it now.
Doomben Value Bet: Gdansk
Poland may be yet to taste medal success at the Tokyo Olympics, but the runner named after one of the country’s cities can be successful at Doomben on Wednesday in the final race of the day. Toby & Trent Edmonds will leg up Andrew Mallyon aboard Gdansk in a 1350m Benchmark 68. The three-year-old son of Dissident has been runner-up in all three runs this campaign, including a very narrow defeat to Rogue Rocker, who started favourite in the Group 3 Winx Guineas three weeks ago. Mallyon again will have to overcome a wide gate in barrier 10, but there does look to be a bit of speed, which should allow Gdansk to slot in just off the pace and finish strongly over the top. He is never far away from the winner’s stall and this looks his chance to return to it.
