The track is rated a Soft 6 and the rail is out 11.5m for the entire course. The first of nine metropolitan races is set to jump at 12:05pm, with the last due to go at 5:00pmAEST, rounding out what will have been a massive weekend of sport around the country.

Doomben’s Best Bet: Sir Rocket

Arguably one of the state’s top stables join forces with the state’s top jockeys in the opening leg of the quaddie, with Michael Costa and Brad Stewart teaming up on Sir Rocket. The son of Smart Missile was formerly trained in New South Wales under the care of Bjorn Baker, but has had two starts for Costa in the Summer months, winning at Ipswich by three lengths in January, before pulling up at the tail of the field with an issue that sidelined him for six months. The five-year-old gelding has had two trials since then, winning his most recent in good style albeit by a narrow margin. Sir Rocket has plenty of ability and has drawn ideally in barrier four to find the front under Stewart and prove too hard to catch first-up from a spell over the 1050m course.

Best BetRace 6 – Sir Rocket (#2) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet – Shajaea

Shajaea was originally set to go around at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night, but the John Symons & Sheila Laxon-trained three-year-old has been scratched in preference for this. The son of in-form stallion Shalaa has won his past two races at the Sunshine Coast by a combine 3.5 lengths over 1000m and now rises to 1200m which he looks ready for at his fourth run this campaign. Drawn the inside alley for Jaden Lloyd, he looks to be able to dictate terms from in front and get the run to suit. With the rail out 11.5m, it is likely to favour those on the fence which is a big tick for Shajaea here. With only 56kg on his back after Lloyd’s claim, he looks extremely well weighted in his bid to make it three-straight wins on Sunday.

Next BestRace 1 – Shajaea (#1) $3.20 with Sportsbet

Best Value Bet At Doomben – Torowoto

Peter & Will Hulbert saddle up their in-form gelding Torowoto in the seventh race, as he looks to make it two wins from his past three starts. The son of Shamus Award finished in the minor money in his two starts in July, before breaking through for a maiden win at Ipswich on August 20 by 1.3 lengths over 1700m, defeating subsequent winner, Malibu Blaze. The six-year-old has had one start since, closing off from second last to run fourth at the Gold Coast, beaten less than half a length when sharply back in trip to 1400m. The Hulbert stable has now stepped Torowoto back out in distance to 1660m which will suit, and Andrew Spinks hops back aboard after winning on the gelding two starts ago. Drawn well in barrier three, Spinks will be able to take closer order on Torowoto and give this race a massive shake at the each-way odds.

Best ValueRace 7 – Torowoto (#7) $9.50 with Sportsbet
