Doomben horse betting preview – Feburary 4, 2021

Doomben will play host to eight metropolitan races this Thursday on what will be a Heavy 10 track after plenty of rain has hit South-East Queensland in the days leading up to the meeting. The rail is out +4m for the entire circumference of the course. The first will jump at 1:34pm.

Best Bet: Taormina Match

The price about this filly is absurd! Trevor Miller’s Taormina Match lines up in what is a tricky maiden, but we are rather bullish about her chances. The three-year-old Nicconi filly has had four starts for two thirds and two fourths, with her most recent run coming behind potential superstar Miami Fleiss at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight ago. All four of her runs have come on a wet track, including a third to Fleet Dove on debut in her two-year-old season. She got a long way out of her ground last start after being a touch tardy away, so hopefully from the good gate (3) she will jump well, land closer and be right within striking distance under Tegan Harrison. Up to 1110m should suit her after she was strong late and through the line over 1000m last time out.

Next Best: Nemingah

Nemingah has a task at hand on Thursday, and that is turning around a five-length margin on Miss Penfold, but we are quietly confident that he can with a 2kg weight swing and an extra 220m. Now third up this campaign and out to his suited 2020m, the five-year-old son of Nom Du Jeu looks well placed to get back in the winner’s circle for the first time since his good win in the Grafton Cup Prelude. He was a big drifter and somewhat disappointing last time out at Eagle Farm when third to Miss Penfold, but he did his best work late. Jake Bayliss stays on board here, which should see him get a great run in transit from barrier three. There is more speed engaged with the likes of Meteor Light and Craiglea Cetina, so it should be a genuine staying test. This is his race to bounce back in.

Next BestRace 6 – Nemingah (#2) $7.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Dio D’oro

Matt Dunn and Ryan Maloney combine in the last with ex-Sydney galloper Dio D’oro, who is having his second start in Queensland. The five-year-old gelded son of Medaglia D’oro has won four from 29, with all of those wins coming on rain-affected going, so he should relish the conditions. Jumping from barrier two, he should show his natural customary gate speed to be in a prominent spot early under Maloney. He does have a big weight with 60.5kg, but he should offset that with class alone. The track is likely to chop up by this time in the afternoon, and that could suit him even more. The $6 is generous.

Best ValueRace 8 – Dio D’oro (#1) $6 with Sportsbet
