Donald racing preview & best odds
An eight-race card greets punters on Tuesday at Donald in northwestern Victoria. The track at the time of writing is a Good 4, but consistent rain on Sunday and throughout Monday means we may see a downgrade prior to the first race at 1:30pm AEDT. The rail is back in the true position after being out 2m a month ago, so the inside lanes may prove advantageous early on.
Matt Cumani and John Allen combine here with a 4YO gelding who will be looking to break his maiden tag at start six. From barrier two he maps to be up on speed, and he has shown in previous starts he is more than capable of taking up a position just behind the leaders. In what doesn’t look like a deep maiden, Boom Boom Sweet looks well placed to get that breakthrough win. He’ll appreciate the extra 150m for his second-up run and will take a power of beating.

Lindsey Smith’s 4YO mare looks extremely tough to go past in the opening leg of the quaddie, especially if she runs to the form she showed during the autumn. She maps to take up the running here, and barrier 11 should not be an issue for Michael Rodd to get across one off the rails. She seems to relish rain-affected ground, where she has four minor placings in her career.

With three scratchings already declared, Shay Keating’s 4YO gelding maps to get an easy time of it up front with not much pace engaged in this BM58. The extra 100m seems to only benefit him as he looks to get his second career win with a well-rated ride from Jamie Mott.
