Dimaggio’s connections are optimistic about his prospects for the upcoming spring season after his impressive victory at Hastings on Saturday.

The son of Almanzor, ridden by jockey Kozzi Asano, executed a well-judged race strategy, taking an early lead and engaging in a spirited duel with the local contender, Gohugo.

In a thrilling contest that unfolded over the course of the race, Dimaggio displayed remarkable determination and resilience in the closing stages, ultimately securing the win by a long neck. Infer finished a respectable third, trailing by three-quarters of a length.

Trainer Tony Pike commented on the race, saying, “It wasn’t our pre-race plan to lead, but he jumped well, and surprisingly, there wasn’t much early pace in the race.

“Kozzi rode him brilliantly, managing to secure some economical sectionals. Although he’s still a bit inexperienced under pressure, he has returned as a stronger horse, and we’re hopeful that he will continue to progress in the future.”

Jockey Kozzi Asano was equally delighted with the performance and expressed confidence in Dimaggio’s capabilities as they turned for home.

He noted, “The horse beside me, Gohugo, was a bit keen down the back straight, but my mount was relaxed, and I knew he had more to offer. He loves this track, and it’s great to secure the victory today.”

Tony Pike has always held high regard for Dimaggio’s potential and is looking ahead to the Hawke’s Spring Carnival with his promising gelding.

“He has consistently displayed a lot of ability,” Pike emphasized.

“He even contested the Derby last season. He’s a horse still learning his trade, showing promise and progression. After this win, he’ll likely remain in this grade, and we’ll consider returning here in three weeks.”
