David Hayes confident in Cannyescent’s return to the track

Cannyescent
CANNYESCENT will make its eagerly-awaited debut for new trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig this weekend – the gelding’s first start since August last year.

Owned by Sona Bloodstock, the four-year-old has had just seven starts to date, recording two stylish victories, the most recent of which being over 1100 metres on Australia Day.

Since his last outing to the track, Cannyescent has joined the powerful Lindsay Park training team and has continued to mature into a stronger and more polished runner. There’s great anticipation surrounding its return this week.

The son of Canny Lad and Juicy was an emergency in a BM78 at Moonee Valley over 1200 metres on Friday, where it would have run favourite, but will make it’s return at Ballarat on Sunday in a BM70 over 1200 metres.

Co-trainer David Hayes says he is expecting a bold showing.

“Very, very happy with this horse, he is going extremely well,” Hayes told HorseBetting.com.au.

“He is second emergency [at Moonee Valley] so we will probably be running at Ballarat on Sunday.

“Ballarat might be a good track for him – I thought the top weight Mr. Individual would be very hard to beat [at Moonee Valley]– but it has a lot of weight.

“He will be competitive in whatever he runs in – I think he is in for a good preparation.”

Sona Bloodstock has had a massive few weeks on the track, highlighted by emerging filly Ahndras, which continued her quest towards to the Australian Oaks with a dominant victory at Doomben on Saturday.

Trained by Toby Edmonds and ridden by Jeff Lloyd, Ahndras responded to hard riding in the straight to wear down the leader, Don’t Doubt The Wife, in a gritty performance over the mile.

Another Sona prospect to salute this week was Aghna – also trained by Hayes and Dabernig – which bounced back to form with a victory at Corowa on Tuesday.
