First Race 2:52pm ACST

Race 1 – $20,000 Two-Up TROBIS Class 2 Handicap (1300m)

Tough to settle on a winner with confidence. Top-weight Real Reason is capable of saluting as he seems to run at his best over 1300-1600m. Blue Jean Baby (Garry Lefoe Jnr/Sonja Wiseman) boasts better form over shorter trips, but has the advantage of the inside gate. Stalemate Zip Lane (Jade Hampson) only recently ended her maiden status, but is experienced over 1300m and has the bonus of a 4kg claim. Dream Weaver (Chris Pollard/Jarrod Todd) has never ran beyond 1200m despite a last start second.

Only five starters, but a very tricky race. Noble War hasn’t raced since December, but was a last start winner and the rider claims 4kg. Rich Sun (Gary Clarke/Jarrod Todd) is a serious threat after winning last start over 1200m against 0-54 opposition on April 7. No Nay Emerald (Jason Manning/Vanessa Arnott) returns after a seven week lay-off and must be considered as a he drops in grade, while Maxaway (Phil Cole/Wayne Davis) and Redwinelover (Nicole Irwin/Sonja Wiseman) aren’t exactly out of it to be fair.

Another small field of five runners, but another competitive line up. Returning after 19 weeks, Defence Attorney drops from 0-70 to 0-64 class and apart from a 4kg claim boasts impressive first up form after a spell. Raazou (Gary Clarke/Jarrod Todd) is in the mix after a last start win over 1300m (0-58) on March 19. Blueant (Tom Logan/Sonja Wiseman) is good enough to make a serious impact and El Magnificence (Phil Cole/Wayne Davis) hasn’t done anything wrong in two starts since arriving in the Top End.

After bringing creditable form Queensland, Poupee has recorded two wins of the highest order and makes the step up to open company. Despite winning by eight lengths over 1000m on April 14, the 4YO mare will be provided with a solid test against Gary Clarke stablemates Bel’s Banner (Jarrod Todd) and Papalet (Paul Shiers). Both have outstanding form at Fannie Bay as sprinters and thus it makes for an intriguing race. Kronos, who has a 4kg claim, and Valentina Star are going to have their hands against their rivals.
