Damien Oliver suspended for eight meetings

Jockey Damien Oliver returns to scale on Chouxting The Mob
Damien Oliver was one of two riders suspended for whip breaches in the Great Ocean Road Handicap.

Damien Oliver’s win on stayer Chouxting The Mob at Flemington has come at a cost, with the champion jockey suspended for breaching the whip rules.

Oliver was one of two riders suspended for whip breaches in Saturday’s Great Ocean Road Handicap (2520m).

Stewards issued an eight-meeting suspension to Oliver, who used the whip 10 times before the 100m which is five more than permitted under the rules.

He will begin the ban after Wednesday’s meeting at Sandown and will miss next Saturday’s city meeting at Caulfield.

Apprentice Tahlia Hope was also suspended for eight meetings for breaching the whip rules on Killarney Kid, who was unplaced in the same race.

Along with suspensions to Oliver and Hope, fellow riders Sairyn Fawke, Chelsea MacFarlane and Jason Maskiell were fined for whip breaches at the meeting.
