Dalby racing preview

Dalby will host its postponed meeting from last week on Monday, December 14. The track is rated a Soft 5 at time of writing, but given the wet weather that has hit the South-East corner of Queensland in the past 48 hours and the forecast ahead, we can expect to start closer to the heavy range. The rail will be moved out +2.5m from the 600m-300m, while it’ll be true in the remainder. Race 1 is set to go at 2pm local time.

Best BetRace 7 – Camp Rifle (#3) $2.70 with Sportsbet

Former Godolphin runner Camp Rifle hasn’t won since his big victory at Wyong over 12 months ago, but he also hasn’t been racing in this company at Dalby either, so we have plenty of reason to believe that he can end his streak here. While he has never won or even placed in a race on wet ground, he has won a trial on a Heavy 8 at Gosford and finished fourth on soft going in some handy races, behind the likes of Splintex and Mohican. Zac Lloyd’s 4kg claim is very helpful, especially from the slightly sticky draw. Speed on will suit his fast-finishing race pattern.

Next BestRace 2 – Resonare (#3) $2.35 with Sportsbet

Resonare has been racing very well this time in, missing the placings only three times in his past 10 starts. The son of All Too Hard has run well on wet tracks in the past and has two placings at Dalby from five visits. Up to 2000m suits, while the expected slow tempo should give him an edge from barrier one. Kenji Yoshida will just stalk the leaders and hope for enough luck around the bend to give the six-year-old his fifth career win and fourth this season.

Best ValueRace 5 – The Hooligan (#5) $4 with Sportsbet

The Hooligan comes off a good win at this track a fortnight ago when defeating Chevrons’n’rockers by a length. He does drop back 100m and rise 2kg in weight here, so we aren’t surprised to see one or two shorter than him in the market. He is a winner on a heavy track at his only attempt, and he has won on soft going as well. He’ll get back from the outside barrier and run on out wide, which could suit if the track chops up a touch.
