When Friday, May 21, 2021
First Race 5:30pm AEST

Cranbourne Turf Club is set to host an eight-part card on Friday night from 5:30pm AEST. The track is rated a Heavy 8, while the rail will be out 7m for the entire circuit for what is the second-to-last meeting under lights at Cranbourne for the racing season. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets, top odds and free quaddie numbers for the evening.

Best Bet: Vainly

Our best bet on the Cranbourne card comes up in the penultimate event, where Jerome Hunter saddles up Vainly with Celine Gaudray on board. The pair looked to be a good thing beaten at Mornington on May 11 but found a gap late on in the piece to storm home and clinch the win. He comes to Cranbourne second-up from a spell and drops 3kg off that last run, thanks largely to his jockey’s 2kg claim. From barrier seven, we expect Gaudray to settle Vainly close to the speed, perhaps one pair back. If that is the case, look for the four-year-old gelding to be peeling out three wide entering the home straight. With a proven wet-track record, he should be too strong late for this BM64 field.

Best BetRace 7 – Vainly (#2) $4.60 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Runaway Train

The Clayton Douglas-trained Runaway Train is another coming through the Mornington meeting on May 11, and on the back of a soft win, we expect the mare to continue her winning form. With two wins from two starts this campaign and dropping down 4kg off that last-start win, she looks the one to beat yet again. Two starts back, Runaway Train broke her maiden over this track and distance, on a wet track and she gets those conditions again on Friday night. As always, Jamie Kah will be on her back, and from barrier seven, we expect to see the Bullet Train mare settling in the second half of the field before rounding them up in the home straight to bring up her third win on the bounce.

Next BestRace 4 – Runaway Train (#3) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Our John Boy

Last-start maiden winner Our John Boy comes to Cranbourne on the quick nine-day backup after his soft win on May 12 over the 1200m. The Wendy Kelly-trained son of Star Witness jumped perfectly out of the gates to lead the field up at his last start and never looked in danger throughout. He steps up to Class 1 company on Friday night, and from barrier 11 with Jason Maskiell sticking on board, we expect him to ‘jump on the bunny’ and prove too hard to catch in the second leg of the Cranbourne quaddie.

Best ValueRace 6 – Our John Boy (#3) $11 with Sportsbet
