Cranbourne tips and best bets for January 8

What Cranbourne Races
Where Cranbourne Turf Club – 50 Grant St, Cranbourne VIC 3977
When Friday, March 26, 2021
First Race 6:30pm AEDT

Cranbourne will take centre stage on Friday night as the night racing shifts from Moonee Valley to Melbourne’s southeast. Despite plenty of rain in the lead up to race day, the track is rated a Soft 5, and with an improving forecast we may even see an early upgrade. The rail is back in the true position after being out 7m for the meeting on March 12, so expect the rails to be the place to be if there is any bias. The eight-race card is set to get underway at 6:30pm AEDT.

Best Bet: Kingstar Amber

The Shane Nichols-trained Kingstar Amber simply did not run out the 1200m at Moonee Valley on March 13 when finishing midfield a fair way off the eventual winner. The I Am Invincible mare has shown plenty of ability this campaign, which resulted in a victory at Ballarat two runs back after a hat-trick of runner-up performances. Expect jockey Billy Egan to take a sit just off the leaders from barrier six, and with a solid tempo expected her rock-hard fitness should see her be too strong for a field that has four last-start winners going around. We should get a nice price about Kingstar Amber in the second leg of the Cranbourne quaddie.

Best BetRace 6 – Kingstar Amber (#6) $4.60 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Don’t Doubt Nic

Having last been seen in the 2020 Blue Diamond Preview when seven lengths behind Hanseatic, Don’t Doubt Nic has trialled nicely in the lead up to this run on Friday night. Since we last saw him, the Grahame Begg runner has been gelded and should be better for it in his first-up assignment. The trainer clearly had a high opinion of the son of Nicconi in his juvenile season when chasing home the likes of Hungry Heart, Hanseatic and Glenfiddich, who are all black-type winners. From barrier four under Daniel Stackhouse, we expect Don’t Doubt Nic to be in the one-one and showing a nice turn of foot as he looks to break his maiden at start three in the easiest race he has tackled so far in his career.

Next BestRace 2 – Don’t Doubt Nic (#1) $3.70 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Anglian

Two starts back, the James Cumming-trained Anglian was a dominant winner when breaking his maiden at Ballarat on February 13. The Brazen Beau gelding then went to Sandown on March 3 and threw away any chance he had when racing keenly throughout, losing a plate in doing so. With better racing manners, and aided by a gun ride from the in-form Damian Lane, an each-way play for Anglian looks to be the go in the final race on Friday night at Cranbourne.

Best ValueRace 8 – Anglian (#6) $19 with Sportsbet
