Friday racing tips for Cranbourne

There are eight races set down for judgement on Friday as the Victorian night racing season continues at Cranbourne. The rail has come out to the 9m mark, so it may pay to follow some of the more on-pace runners throughout the night. The track has come up a Good 4 and should stay that way, while the first race will jump at 6pm AEDT with our best tip on the card.

Best BetRace 1 – Supreme Thunder (#4) Get the best odds

Archie Alexander and Declan Bates will be hoping they can continue their good run of form together when they team up with Supreme Thunder, who just missed on debut at Ballarat three weeks ago as a well-backed favourite. The three-year-old gelding settled in the middle of a big field in that run and loomed as the winner approaching the final furlong, but he found one better over the concluding stages to go down by only a neck. He’ll benefit from that first-up effort, and if he finds a similar run in transit, it is hard to see anything going past him.

Next BestRace 6 – Knowles (#6) Get the best odds

Jason Warren’s four-year-old mare gets into a race of this level for the first time since March this year. Last start she contested the G H Mumm Century Stakes at Flemington on Oaks Day, where she was seemingly outclassed despite a handy jumpout prior to that first-up effort. She has struggled of late, but on her day she would easily account for the field she faces here. Jake Noonan has been aboard Knowles on one occasion and had to settle for second place, so they will be hoping to go one better at Cranbourne on Friday.

Best ValueRace 3 – Sequalus (#7) Get the best odds

Back off a six-month break, we’ll be hoping Sequalus can go one better than her debut performance over this track and distance. She ran within a length to China Affair on that occasion, and four horses from that race have gone on to break their maiden tag, so the form is solid for this assignment. She simply didn’t handle the Soft 7 at Sale before going to the paddock, and she should appreciate getting onto firmer ground first up.
