An eight-race card is scheduled for Cranbourne on Thursday afternoon, and’s Victorian horse racing analyst presents his best bets and free quaddie selections for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 6, and the rail will be set in the true position for the entire circuit. Racing is set to commence at 1:30pm AEST.

Cranbourne Best Best: Pepper’s Ghost

Our best bet comes up in the second leg of the quaddie, where the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Pepper’s Ghost is primed to make it consecutive wins over the Cranbourne 2000m. The four-year-old Al Maher gelding managed to put 3.5 lengths on his rivals as he booted clear for a soft win last time out, and this race does not look to be any harder. From barrier nine, he will need a touch of luck early on to get in the moving line with cover, but with the in-form Damian Lane retaining the ride, they should be too hard to hold out. The Ellerton & Zahra stable are in hot form themselves, striking at 21% at non-metro tracks, and we expect Pepper’s Ghost to continue that trend.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Fazzabeel

Chris Waller and Brett Prebble are set combine with second-time starter Fazzabeel, who looked to be a good thing beaten at Bendigo on debut on September 3. Having settled close to the rear of the field, the three-year-old son of Savabeel got no luck in the home straight until it was too late. However, when he did see clear air, Fazzabeel produced a sharp turn of foot to go down by only one length. From barrier four, we expect Prebble to have him settled midfield with cover, and as long as he does not get trapped in the three-wide line he should prove hard to beat. His turn of foot is the best in this field, and only bad luck might hold him out.

Next BestRace 4 – Fazzabeel (#9) $3.60 with Sportsbet

Best Value Bet at Cranbourne: Wish I Might

In the final leg of the quaddie, Daniel Bowman and Melissa Julius combined with Wish I Might, who gets the blinkers on for the first time. The six-year-old mare has chased home the smart Veranskova and He’s The Reel Deel this campaign when filling the minor placings. She seemingly does her best racing when settling in the second half of the field and running on, and in recent times backmarkers have been given every chance at Cranbourne. In a field that is no harder than races she has been going around in of late, Wish I Might should prove too hard to hold out and send us home winners.

Value BetRace 8 – Wish I Might (#13) $5 with Sportsbet
