Cranbourne betting tips – Friday, March 12
An eight-race card is scheduled for Cranbourne on Friday night. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 7m for the entire circuit, yet we expect the course to play fairly throughout the night with no visible bias. The first at Cranbourne is set to jump at 5:35pm AEDT, while the last will run at 9:40pm.
Best Bet: Goondiwindi
After being well backed on debut over the 1600m at Pakenham on February 18, the Danny O’Brien-trained Goondiwindi will be looking to break his maiden tag at start two. Having settled in the second half of the field in that first-up run, expect similar tactics here for the colt out of Australia. He showed a decent enough turn of foot on debut and should be too strong for this thin maiden field on Friday night.

Next Best: Valanetti
Last seen running third in the Sandown Guineas in the spring, the Mick Price-trained Valanetti looks well placed in this first-up run over 1300m. From barrier eight, we expect Michael Dee to settle towards the rear of the field before rounding them up late. When resuming from a spell last campaign, Valanetti was a close third at Pakenham when laying in, so if he can avoid making those same mistakes here, the $3.20 on offer looks to be good enough value.

Best Value: Diesel ‘n’ Dust
The Jason Warren-trained Diesel ‘n’ Dust was quite disappointing over the 1000m at Flemington on January 29. The Pride Of Dubai gelding clearly did not appreciate the Heavy 9 he encountered that day, but his record on Soft going should see him competitive over the same journey at Cranbourne. From barrier five, Beau Mertens will look to settle him just off the leaders’ heels and set him up to savage the line late.
