The quality of racing doesn’t stop on Sunday when we head to Cranbourne, after what was a sensational day on Saturday for the Caulfield Guineas. A blockbuster nine race card is set down for judgement on Sunday afternoon, where the 21st running of the Cranbourne Cup will be run at 4:50pm AEDT.
After plenty of mid-week rain, the track has surprisingly come up a Good 4 with favourable conditions forecast.
Richard Laming and Damien Oliver team up with the in-form four year old gelding. Excelman will be looking to right the wrongs of two starts back at Sale, where he was disqualified, and then found one better in Criminal last time out at Cranbourne. He’ll look to take a seat in the back half of the field, and when Ollie asks him for an effort he should have enough class to put this field away with ease.

It was hard to miss the last start win of this Phillip Stokes trained gelding, when he absolutely bolted in at Caulfield three weeks ago. Ancestry gave nothing else a chance in a fast run race. From the gun draw, he should have enough early speed to dictate terms quite easily and with jockey Michael Poy retaining the ride he rates quite highly. He’s had five starts on rain affected tracks for three wins and should appreciate the sting out of the ground.
