Cranbourne Cup Betting Preview
Sunday afternoon will be the 21st running of the Cranbourne Cup, with a high quality field assembled to go with it. There are plenty of Group winners in the field such as Trap For Fools, whilst last year’s Cranbourne Cup winner Dr Drill will look to defend his title.
The 2020 Cranbourne Cup is set to jump at 4:50pm AEDT.
#11 Shot Of IrishIt’s more rain the better for the Richard Laming trained gelding, and at the moment the track looks like it will remain in the soft range for the running of the Cranbourne Cup despite favourable conditions throughout the weekend. He was well beaten by the in-form Junipal last time out, but looked to have been the best of the rest when finishing second. He maps to be up near the speed compared to some of his rivals who will be a few lengths of him coming into the home which may prove pivotal. As always with this galloper, it’s the first 100 metres to keep an eye on, as he doesn’t always have the best barrier manners.
#6 Plain CielThe Cranbourne Cup seems like a last chance saloon for many Plein Ciel backers, considering he has had plenty of market support in each of his six runs this campaign. He has only managed to find his way into the winners circle once when dead heating with our top selection Shot Of Irish at The Valley back in June. He ran into an inform Al Galayel in the JRA Cup a fortnight ago, but had the rest of the field covered quite easily in wet going. If he runs up to that form here, he should be fighting out the finish.
#1 Trap For FoolsThe Lindsey Smith trained seven year old gelding maps to be the one to take up the running in the Cranbourne Cup. If he runs up to what he showed in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes a fortnight ago, he will be right in the finish here. It is a nice drop in grade for the former Group 1 winner and has been known to be able to carry the heavy weight. If the track stays in the soft range it may suit him a bit better than some of the other fancied runners in the market.
