What Cranbourne Races
Where Cranbourne Turf Club – 50 Grant St, Cranbourne VIC 3977
When Thursday, July 7, 2022
First Race 1pm AEST

Cranbourne is the venue for Victorian horse racing on Thursday afternoon, with gallopers running on a predicted Soft 7 surface. Race one is a maiden for the two-year-olds, kicking off the eight-race card at 1pm AEST. The quaddie starts at 3pm, while a tricky last race with 14 runners engaged is scheduled for 4:30pm. With good field sizes, there should be a lot of value on show with online bookmakers.

BEST BET: FARHH FLUNG

Farhh Flung almost got there last start at Swan Hill when beaten a nose and we think Cranbourne is his for the taking. In fact he has been less than half a length in his last two encounters and with fitness on his side is sure to be in the finish with Jye McNeil on top. The two close placings were on Soft ground too so the track conditions should suit the Danny O’Brien trained gelding. They were both 1600m races and he ran home slightly quicker last time over the last 600m which suggests he still has upside. He is rock hard fit now after two jumpouts and two races and after a small freshen up for this, race four here could be the race connections are most confident about. Makbeel will be a serious rival and we will have one eye on him in the run.

Best Bet

Race 4 – #2 Farhh Flung (11)

3yo Gelding | T: Danny O’Brien | J: Jye McNeil (59.5kg)

$1.70 with Bet365

NEXT BEST: CISALPINE

This three-year-old gelding gets a good barrier in three and with the combination of Chris Waller and Brett Prebble, we think punters need to keep this Tornado x Settecento gelding safe in the market. He has had three starts with his best result being a second at Kilmore on debut. He ran home well that day and although his next two starts were disappointing, we are trusting Waller’s judgment in this event. Citizen for Sam Freedman ran a good second last start and has to be respected.

Next Best

Race 2 – #2 Cisalpine (2)

3yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: Brett Prebble (59.5kg)

$6.50 with Bet365

VALUE BET: TOORAK PLAYBOY

We have included the playboy amongst our chances and he may be value in the first leg of the quaddie. Sheridan Clarke is on board and claims 2kg on the Toorak Toff x Coolers gelding. He has been poor this campaign and this is probably his last chance to show something with us, but the eight-year-old gelding has the experience to run an honest race against a lot of runners who have raced a lot less than he has. He has been in the money 18 of 39 starts and he is no slouch. He goes well on Heavy and Soft ground and despite it being 295 days since his last win, we think he’s a genuine each-way play.

Best Value

Race 5 – #5 Toorak Playboy (1)

8yo Gelding | T: John Allen | J: Sheridan Clarke (59kg)

$17.00 with Bet365
