What Cranbourne Races
Where Cranbourne Turf Club – 50 Grant St, Cranbourne VIC 3977
When Friday, May 19, 2023
First Race 5:45pm AEST

For the penultimate time this season, Friday night racing heads to Cranbourne Turf Club for an eight-part program. With up to 6mm of rain forecast for Friday afternoon and leading into the evening, expect to see the track remain in the Soft 7 range for the night, while the rail comes out 7m the entire circuit suggesting it may be favourable to be up on speed. A competitive night of racing commences at 5:45pm AEST.

Best Bet at Cranbourne: Verifier

We do not need to wait too long on Friday night for our best bet as the Nigel Blackiston-trained Verifier strikes quite the winnable maiden over 2025m. Despite being a nine-start maiden, the three-year-old son of Tivaci was last seen finishing three lengths off Red Sun Sensation in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes at Morphettville. He gave all of his rivals a start on that day when settling last but made up plenty of ground late to suggest this is more than within his grasp. Despite the track potentially favouring those on speed, Verifier looks to have a bit of class compared to his rivals and should be too good for them in the opening event of the night.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Silver Waves

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Silver Waves was an impressive Mornington winner on debut back on April 9, before finding one better at Bairnsdale on May 1 when unable to reel in the leader. The three-year-old looks to be one with above-average ability, and from barrier seven under Suraj Narredu she could land the one-one and blow her rivals away over the five furlongs.

Next Best Again at Cranbourne: Miss Milhous

We will be looking to strike in the opening leg of the quaddie as Dan O’Sullivan’s filly Miss Milhous looks to build on her smart Kilmore maiden win on April 13. That effort came on a Heavy 8 when sprinting nicely through the line after taking a sit just off the speed. From barrier six under Thomas Stockdale, she will be looking to land the one-one throughout or even outside leader, and considering we know she will handle the going, it is hard to go past Miss Milhous as she steps into BM64 grade.
