GODOLPHIN gun Benbatl is more popular with online bookmaker Sportsbet punters than Winx to win Saturday’s Cox Plate.

The wondermare Winx heads betting at $1.22, but second favourite Benbatl, in from $10 to $8.50, has received twice as many bets as the Chris Waller-trained champ.

Winx will be chasing an historic fourth Cox Plate win, and Sportsbet representative Ella Zampatti believes it will be a tall order for the seven competitors to topple the great mare.

“There are plenty of Benbatl fans that obviously think Winx’ winning streak is coming to an end on Saturday.

“It happens every year, but someone needs to tell them they’re dreaming.”

  • In 2017 Happy Clapper (6th) was the best backed runner, by a slender margin. Winx starts at $1.18, her shortest quote for the Group 1.

Sportsbet has paid out over $40 million on her wins to date.
