Country Cup betting guides for Sunday, February 11

SUNDAY has a number of country cup meetings on and the team at Horse Betting thought we’d change things up a bit and give you a tip for each individual feature.

We have expanded on the usual format and delivered more of an in-depth analysis on why we think our runners will succeed in the feature events this weekend.

Let’s take a look at which cup runners we’re running with.

Colac Race 7 – Colac Cup (2000m)

Berisha

Berisha is second-up heading into the Colac Cup, and it has a great record of one win and two placings from five attempts at that point in the preparation.

The horse is a city-type runner that has not had a lot of luck over this preparation, but it has form in the bigger races. Berisha finished second in the Cranbourne Cup on October 15 and rounded out the first-four in the Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m) at Sandown.

We believe Berisha is a city style runner that will thrive against weaker company in the country. This race is at six-year-old’s mercy.

Berisha is at $3.80 via Sportsbet to win the Colac Cup

Bathurst Race 7 – Bathurst Cup (1800m)

If Paragon brings its best form to Bathurst it will be hard to beat.

Paragon is a horse that could use a change of luck, but at its absolute best will be way too good for this field.

Last time out the horse finished last in the Gosford Gold Cup, but it felt like gelding was never really a winning hope going into that race. Just three starts back the six-year-old recorded a powerful BM80 win at Warwick Farm, so the skill-set is there.

The 1800m journey probably isn’t the horse’s ideal distance, but in top gear Paragon is a more than capable runner. Expect son of Reaan to go forward from gate four and give them something to catch.

Paragon is the $5 hope at Ladbrokes to win the Bathurst Cup

Hobart Race 8 – Hobart Cup (2400m)

Craig Williams will head to Hobart to take the ride on Pretty Punk

Pretty Punk has been in great form this preparation and will look to bring that form down to the apple isle.

Last-start the horse finished fourth in a blanket finish at Caulfield in an open handicap and prior to that the horse had recorded two straight wins.

The big tick for us heading into Sunday’s feature is the fact that Craig Williams is heading across the Bass Strait to retain the ride on Pretty Punk. Williams steered the horse to the last-start fourth and is a consummate professional.

We believe Pretty Punk is the horse to beat here if the form holds up. We think it goes forward easily and takes this race out from the head of affairs.

Pretty Punk is at $4.60 via Crownbet to win the Hobart Cup
