Coffs Harbour Best Bet: Defactor
We save our best bet until the last race of the day, when the Michael Costa-trained Defactor steps out over 1000m. He bolted in at the Gold Coast on June 5 over 1200m in an all-the-way victory, and stepping back to 1000m should not hurt his chances of bringing up consecutive victories. Andrew Gibbons hops on board for the first time, and he should have no issue settling his mount up on speed. From barrier 11, we expect him to lead the field up or settle outside the leader. If that be the case, Defactor will take some catching as he looks to make this a genuinely run 1000m dash.

Next Best at Coffs Harbour: Not Taking It
The Terry Evans-trained Not Taking It looks well placed to break her maiden at start four after three consecutive minor placings to begin her career. Despite drawing out wide in barrier 17, she has shown early pace in her career and should be fighting for a spot close to the speed. The three-year-old filly gets apprentice Georgina McDonnell on board yet again, and with her 2kg claim she gets in with just 55kg. We know this one handles rain-affected going well, and the light weight will make her hard to beat.
Race 1 – Not Taking It (#11)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1372247_01]
Coffs Harbour Value Bet: Thiwlig
Joanne Hardy and Jon Griesdale combine with last-start winner Thiwlig, who broke her maiden in a four-length victory after settling three wide with no cover up on speed. She kicked clear over the 810m dash, and stepping up to the 1000m looks ideal second-up from a spell. The former Matt Laurie-trained galloper will go forward under Griesdale, and if she can settle one off the fence, she should be too speedy for this BM58 field of fillies and mares in the third leg of the quaddie.
