Coffey brings up milestone at Flemington

Harry Coffey will see out his apprenticeship without an allowance after a stakes victory on Felicienne at Flemington.

The apprentice notched the 80th city win of his career as he guided the Darren Weir-trained mare along the fence to a 1-1/4 length win in Saturday’s Group Three Schweppervescence Trophy.

“To do it on a day like today, you have to pinch yourself to be even riding here. But for me to have such a big thrill on this day is great,” Coffey said.

Craig Williams escaped injury when second favourite Noble Protector reared up in the barriers at the start and dumped the jockey.

Trainers Leon and Troy Corstens received a minor consolation when Tried And Tired raced to victory in the Listed March Stakes (1400m).

Tried And Tired’s stablemate Awesome Rock was first past the post in the $1.5 million Group One Australian Cup but lost the race on protest to Preferment.
