Clayton Douglas fined after Annual success
Grand Annual Steeplechase-winning jockey Clayton Douglas has had his day soured by a $2000 fine.
Douglas faced three charges from Racing Victoria stewards after winning Thursday’s 5500m-marathon on Gold Medals, his first ride in the race.
He was fined $1000 for using the whip on 11 occasions, once more than permitted, before the 100m mark.
The 23-year-old then copped a $500 fine for using the whip on four consecutive strides inside the final 100m and another $500 over the use of his spurs.
Craig Williams received a seven-meeting careless riding suspension after his win on Tee Train in the No Fuss Event Hire Handicap.
Williams starts his suspension after Saturday’s Group One meeting at Morphettville where his rides include Temple Of Bel in the Australasian Oaks and Super Cash in the Robert Sangster Stakes.
His ban ends in time to enable him to ride at the South Australian Derby meeting the following Saturday.
