The Listed Chester Manifold Stakes is the featured event on Flemington’s nine race card on Saturday afternoon. As was the case in 2020, a small field of 10 accepted before the two scratchings of King Of Hastings and Viral came out, leaving just eight runners to battle it out for $140,000 over the 1400m course. The winner of the race in 2020 was Amadeus from the Michael Kent stable.

With the scratching of King Of Hastings, the odds for our best bet Riding The Wave have crunched in to $2.60, but the gelding from the Lindsey Smith stable should show why he is going around at such a price. At his last start on New Year’s Day at Flemington he “got off the canvas” to outbob Alburq to win over 1200m carrying the big weight of 61.5kgs. He plummets in the weights for this assignment and with Ethan Brown hopping back on board they look hard to go past in the Chester Manifold. Having drawn barrier three, Brown will look to get his charge down to the rails, and with speed drawn on their outside, should get some cover. With a bit of luck at the top of the straight we think Riding The Wave should be able to get the job done.
2021 Chester Manifold Stakes Best Value- #1 Blazejowski @ $5.90
The Greg Eurell trained Blazejowski has been far from his best since returning from a spell three runs back. But it is hard to ignore the gelding’s impressive record over the 1400m, which has seen him successful twice over the Flemington 1400m. In his last effort at the track and distance he took out the Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue when unleashing an impressive turn of foot. With a genuine tempo expected in the Chester Manifold, it may be set up nicely for Blazejowski to do something similar on Saturday.
