Charitable Forster keeps faith in stayer

Desleigh Forster is set to build on her success as a fundraiser and break a run on minor placings on the racetrack on Saturday.

Forster and Emma Smith have been the driving forces behind the Sunday Funday promotion to help raise money for drought-stricken farmers at Doomben racecourse.

Sunday’s activities will feature an auction, racing personalities and trivia competitions with more than 250 people expected.

“We have had to switch venues. Gallopers Sports Club kindly offered first up but we wouldn’t be able to fit everyone in,” Forster said.

“So the Brisbane Racing Club has offered us the Champions Bar at Doomben which can hold a bigger crowd. It looks like being a great day and let’s hope we raise plenty for our country friends.”

But first Forster’s mind will be on the Sunshine Coast where her veteran I’m Belucci tackles the Cricks Sunshine Coast Handicap (2200m).

“It has been well documented he has twice been Group One placed in the Champion Stakes and Queensland Derby but has won only one race,” Forster said.

“His career has been dogged with leg problems. He has had three runs back and the good thing is he has got through each without problems.”

“As I always say the horse takes priority but it would be nice to see him win some more races.”

Forster has had six recent minor placings with her horses with many of them by small margins.
